The new DJI Dock 2 and the two associated new industrial drones DJI Matrice 3D and Matrice 3TD were officially launched today for the non-Chinese market. As with the first dock, the target group is in the industrial sector.

The DJI Dock is a “drone hangar” solution. This means that it is a fixed station for certain drone models that can be set up to enable drone missions from a distance. The use of such a station opens up completely new application possibilities.

DJI’s Dock 2 is the second model of this type to be delivered, following the introduction of its innovative predecessor, the first Dock, two years ago.

More Information

New features of the DJI Dock 2

The DJI Dock 2 continues the concept of its predecessor and has been further developed in key areas. This mainly concerns the design and size. It is 75% smaller and 68% lighter than its predecessor, which allows for flexible installation and lower installation costs. The innovative image sensor technology enables fast and efficient site assessment, reducing preparation time from hours to minutes.

Key features of the Dock 2:

  • IP55 ingress protection
  • 10 km maximum effective operating radius
  • Integrated environmental monitoring system
  • Cloud-based modelling
  • FlyTo Tasks
  • Private deployment
  • Support for third-party payloads

Range of functions

The Dock 2 also benefits from a wide range of features that make remote drone flying safe and easy.

In terms of robustness and reliability, the DJI Dock 2 offers IP55 protection against dust and water, making it reliable even in demanding environments. An integrated environmental monitoring system and improved landing stability through image recognition technology ensure safe operation. The built-in backup battery ensures over five hours of operation in the event of a power failure, while the maintenance interval has been extended to six months, minimising labour costs.

Technological innovations also include fast charging and take-off, dual camera monitoring for precise control and cloud-based operation for maximum control over flight routes and live flight control. The DJI Dock 2 also utilises AI technologies for spot checks and FlyTo tasks, increasing the efficiency and safety of operations.

In addition, the DJI Dock 2 offers an open ecosystem that enables the connection of third-party payloads and integration into existing management systems. Edge computing and cloud APIs support efficient data processing and integration, while FlightHub Sync and TerraAPI features enable seamless customisation to individual operational requirements.

Cloud-based operation

With DJI FlightHub 2, highly accurate 3D models of the operational environment can be created after flight tasks are completed and used for analysis and planning purposes. These models serve as the basis for the flight route editor, which enables visual editing and previewing of flight routes from a first-person perspective, improving route planning and accuracy.

To further optimise mission accuracy, the AI-supported sampling function automatically compares the area to be captured with predefined areas in 3D models and adjusts the camera angle for precise shots over multiple flights. The FlyTo mission function automatically plans optimal flight routes to pre-selected destinations so that urgent tasks can be completed efficiently and safely.

In addition, live flight control enables remote control of the flight and gimbal angle even in remote areas. The drone features omnidirectional obstacle detection and automatic obstacle avoidance to maximise the success rate of flight tasks and ensure smooth operations.

DJI Matrice 3D and 3TD

The new DJI Matrice 3D/3TD has been specially developed for the DJI Dock 2. The Matrice 3D is equipped with a telephoto and a wide-angle camera with mechanical shutter and fulfils the requirements for high-precision mapping tasks at a scale of 1:500. The Matrice 3TD is equipped with a wide-angle, a telephoto and an infrared camera and can record both visible light and thermal images.
