Aircraft
With the Avata 2, DJI is delivering a further development of its previous Avata drone. The main focus here is on numerous improvements and some new functions, without completely redesigning the drone itself – which is not even necessary.
The new drone is visually reminiscent of its predecessor, but is still clearly distinguishable from it. The Avata 2 has a more closed housing in which the battery disappears completely. There are also some changes to the dimensions, making the Avata 2 slightly larger than its predecessor. It is longer and wider, whereas it has been made slightly lower. In return, however, the weight has been reduced. The Avata 2 weighs just 377g compared to the 410g of the old model.
C1 label
A very important innovation is the C1 label for the Avata 2, which allows the drone to be used flexibly in the open category in all subcategories A1, A2 and A3. As an existing drone, the Avata 1 has been subject to stricter regulations since 1 January 2024 and may only be flown in A3. This point alone can be decisive for a purchase decision.
Flight time and flight speed
Even if the battery loses performance on paper, the flight time in the successor model increases by 5 minutes and is now 23 minutes under optimum conditions. The maximum flight speed is 97.2 km/h. This is only achieved in manual flight mode and is at the same level as the first generation of the Avata. In sport mode, however, the Avata 2 now manages 57.6km compared to the 50.4km/h of its predecessor.
Camera
The camera can also look forward to small improvements. The sensor is now slightly larger at 1/1.3 inches. However, the image resolution remains unchanged at 4000x3000px, as does the video resolution of 4K@60fps. However, the recordings can now also be saved as HDR variants and in D-Log M format, which is particularly interesting for post-processing.
In terms of digital image stabilisation, the Avata 2 benefits from DJI’s own RockSteady 3.0 and HorizonSteady functions. This is absolutely essential for a 1-axis gimbal. Unlike conventional drones, FPV drones generally do not have the obligatory 3-axis gimbal for mechanical image stabilisation.
New functions
The new model also learns some new tricks. For example, the Avata 2 now has an EasyAcro mode with which flips and rolls can be performed at the touch of a button. This should help beginners in particular to create spectacular FPV recordings without having to invest a lot of time in manual flight mode. However, due to the high speeds and manoeuvrability of the Avata drone, we can only strongly advise you to practise sufficiently before attempting overly spectacular manoeuvres.
New DJI Goggles 3 video goggles, RC Motion 3 and DJI FPV Remote Controller 3 remote controls
There is also a new version of the DJI Goggles to go with the new Avata 2. With the third generation, the video goggles in combination with the drone itself have been given the improved O4 image transmission system, a revised design for greater comfort and the integration of cameras, allowing the real environment to be depicted in the video goggles. This allows us to keep our bearings even when wearing the fully enclosed goggles.
The RC Motion 3 and the FPV Remote Controller 3 have only been minimally modified in terms of design and input methods. They are still very good remote controls. However, the RC Motion Controller in particular requires some familiarisation if you are used to the typical “game controllers”.
Internal memory and SD cards
The internal memory also increases from 20GB to 40GB, which means that it is not absolutely necessary to buy a microSD card. However, this is of course possible as an option and up to 512GB can be added in this way.
Further innovations and important features
- The Avata 2 drone is quieter than its predecessor. It is still clearly audible, but the noise no longer seems quite so shrill and loud.
- The drone now has downward and rearward obstacle detection.

App
The DJI Fly app is also used for the DJI Avata 2. The app has been updated to support the new drone.
Prices and availability of the DJI Avata 2
The DJI Avata 2 is available from a price of €489 (drone and battery only, without video goggles and remote control). The single purchase of the drone can currently only be reserved, while the other versions can be ordered immediately.
The Fly More Combo Bundle consisting of a drone, a battery and FPV goggles and DJI RC Motion 3 remote control starts at €999. The variant with a total of 3 batteries is priced at €1199. The purchase is worthwhile here again compared to buying the batteries individually.

Summary
With the Avata 2, DJI once again knows how to impress and delivers an all-round successful upgrade of an already very good drone. The weight has been reduced, the flight capabilities expanded and new functions integrated. The price is also very respectable. Thanks to the C1 label, the Avata 2 drone is also ahead of its predecessor in terms of flexible use in the Open category. Of course, DJI is not directly responsible for these points, as they are bound by the current laws of the EU drone regulation.
If you are looking for a fast and well-equipped FPV drone, you simply cannot avoid the Avata 2.
