In this article, we explain everything you need to know about drone registration tag/label/licence plate for the DJI Air 3 in Europe. What regulations apply, what you need to bear in mind when you put your licence plate on your drone and what else you need to be aware of.

Do I need a drone registration tag for the DJI Air 3?

Yes, according to the EU Drone Regulation, a drone licence plate is required for the DJI Air 3. The basis for this is the obligation to register as a drone operator for owners of a DJI Air 3.

For the registration obligation, the weight of the drone only plays a role if it is not equipped with a camera or other sensors for recording. Since the Air 3 is equipped with a camera, you as the owner are obliged to register and are therefore also subject to the marking obligation.

Requirements for the drone registration plate for the DJI Air 3

The drone registration label or drone tag must have the drone owner’s eID printed on it. This is a unique identification number that is assigned after registration as a drone operator.

In order to obtain the personal eID, one must first register with the competent authority. Only after the registration has been checked do you receive the necessary eID, which you can view after logging in on the respective platform (country-specific). Since the check can take a few days, you should take care of it early to be able to take off with your drone in time.

The drone registration plate must be securely attached to the outside of the drone. In principle, a simple label is sufficient. However, we recommend a more stable version that will also hold securely and permanently.

We will tell you the best way to attach the licence plate further down in this article.
